Happy Christmas from Courier Systems
At Courier Systems we don't send Christmas cards but instead we spend the money we would have spent on Christmas Cards, and give it to one of our favourite causes. Christmas 2013 we've chosen First Base day centre which provides resources for homeless people in Brighton.
This year the number of people in Sussex sleeping rough or at risk of losing their home, has risen dramatically. As the temperature drops, men and women on the streets are becoming more vulnerable.
Each morning First Base sees more than 60 people who have slept rough the night before. In addition to providing nutritious meals for clients, they also provide shower and laundry facilities, medical check ups, training courses, and one to one support helping to find accommodation and employment. From May – Sept 2013 they saw 597 people, organised 603 health care appointments and supported 49 people to fully complete employability and development courses.
At this time of year, when the weather gets particularly cold, First Base also provides emergency overnight accommodation. This puts increased demand on their supplies. Last winter they accommodated 192 people over 44 nights.
First Base needs funding for toiletries, towels, washing powder, warm clothing and food. These items are essential for clients, so they can keep themselves clean, warm and healthy. It gives them a chance to make a lasting changes to their lives.
