For many years Nigel has been intrigued by the fact that up to 50% of all sameday courier vehicles are unloaded. Think about it; a typical courier delivery leaves the office, picks up at point A, delivers to point B, and returns empty back to the office. Up until now, all those empty vehicle movements were a wasted valuable resource, thousands of unloaded miles each day traveling our roads.

Now, just imagine if you could access a database of empty vehicle movements, moreover, what if other courier companies could provide you with a return-load?

XtraVan is currently a free upgrade for Controller (Windows) users.

Here's a timeline example of how XtraVan has helped two of our clients...
10:00 am
A client of ours (let's call them AnyCourier Co.) takes a booking for a pickup at 14:00 in Manchester to be delivered to SW1 in London. The booking is entered into Controller in the normal way and saved. Immediately and automatically, non-sensitive details of the booking are sent to our XtraVan server here in Brighton.
13:00 pm
Another courier company (let's call them AnyLogistics Co.), based in Milton Keynes receives a call from one of their customers enquiring if they can make a collection near Heathrow for delivery to Newcastle upon Tyne, sometime later this afternoon. Knowing they do not have any vehicles available to do the job, the despatcher at AnyLogistics Co. calls up his XtraVan screen and checks the vehicle movements out of the Heathrow area for between 17:00 and 19:00, and sees there is a large van leaving the London area at about 18:00 returning to Manchester! A quick call to AnyCourier Co. to arrange details, and hey presto a job covered and an empty return load eliminated.

So there we have it, two Controller users have made a bit more profit and XtraVan has helped save the environment!
